Killbox Scenario – Tournament Battle Report
What ho?! This is a Live to CRUSH exclusive battle report. What lies here is an account of my Tournament tie breaker game at the Warsmith gaming shop in East Hartford, Connecticut.
I would report on the previous heats, but to be completely honest my brain is fried and it is hard to remember even this one….much less write about it. Back to business!
The game was 350points of Cryx versus Cygnar, using the killbox scenario. The scenario rules can be found in the forums.
Forces of Cryx:
Iron Lich Asphyxious with deathripper, (2) nightwretches, and an Ogrun Bokur
Pistol Wraith
Gorman di Wulfe
6 Bile Thralls
Forces of Cygnar:
Commander Stryker with lancer and squire
3 Storm lances
the Black 13th
Rupert Carvolo
I won deployment but gave it to cygnar to see where my opponent, the dastardly Pat, set up his black 13th.
Turn 1….
Pat led the charge with the storm lances charging half way across the table. Carvolo followed in their wake, with Stryker and the squire just behind. The Black 13th made a bee line to get to the bile thralls on the opposite side of the table.
I feared what those black 13th were going to do to my bile thralls, but I figured if anyone has to die, it might as well be them. I moved the wraith into the woods ahead, the bile thralls walked toward the Black 13th, but not too close. I needed to draw them closer. The Death ripper ran straight toward the storm lances but avoided melee range. One night wretch moved up the left flank and the other hug in the middle ready to go after the gun mages. Asphyxious arced hellfire at carvolo and killed him in one go. Gorman dropped a cloud on the lich and the ogrun hung near the two.

Turn 2….
The storm lances engaged the deathripper, but failed to take him down. With their charge thwarted, Pat advanced the lancer up, as well as the Black 13th. The gunmages shot at the thralls and pistol wraith putting their kill count at three. Stryker attempted to arc earthquake at Asphyxious, but it missed. Cyrx struck back by running a nightwretch up to allow the lich to arc spells at the Black 13th. One breath of corruption later and I had a dead Ryan in my pocket. The bile thralls moved again and one burst on the black 13th, but only injured Lynch. Of course I forgot about corrosion…..must remember that in the future. The ogrun bokur charged the nearest storm lance and managed simultaneously engage the lancer. Somehow he managed to not kill anyone though at that was disheartening. The last nightwretch moved to the left flank where I wanted to arc spells from…..or just divert Stryker from trying to earthquake me. Asphyxious and Gorman advanced under a cover of smoke.

Turn 3…..
Stryker moved forward with his trusty squire and popped his feat. He took the bait and fired his disruptor pistol at the nightwretch and prevented it from arcing. The storm lances crowded in on the other nightwretch and deathripper. The lancer moved in some as well. No one managed to kill anything, but it was a big cluster-fudge of melee. The black 13th fled the scene of the bile thralls. The two bonejacks in melee were pretty much disabled, but not quite boxed. My army was pretty beat at this point, but that didn’t matter. All of them were expendable. The lich was the key. I advanced him to view Stryker. He tried to cast Parasite with boosted to hit rolls, but it failed due to elevation differences. Next, he popped his feat and shadow winged it over to the back of the cygnarian warcaster. The nightwretch moved forward and blocked the lancer from entering the fray in the future. Bile thralls moved up move and did nothing.

The End…
What followed was an appalling series of events for all sides. First, Stryker failed to hit the lich twice with boosted to hit rolls, so cast arcane shield on himself and moved the squire. The storm lanced disengaged from the bonejacks and moved into hit the lich but also couldn’t follow through. Asphyxious struck back. With his seven focus, he boosted to hit and succeeded. Next, he went to damage. Stryker was armour 20, so it was dice minus five. Boosted damage: dice = 4. Bought another attack, autohit, boosted damage: dice =5. Bought another attack, autohit, boosted damage, dice =4. WTF!!! 3 auto hitting attacks with boosted damage and it did nothing. Well, that sealed my fate. I did a bunch of other stuff and so did Pat, but the bottom line was Asphyxious was taken down by the storm lances, gun-fighting black 13th, and Stryker.
That was a big whiff. I lost my 2nd place prize of 6 months of No Quarter magazines and ended with 3rd. It was a good game though and Pat is a merciless opponent. It definitely was a great competition. Congrats Pat and Shane (the first place winner with his Fiona force) for a job well done.

[...] to hit and needed 8 or better. Thankfully he hit! My dice get finicky on these assassination runs (see my most recent battle against Cygnar). Dice = damage on the helldriver and by buying an additional attack (the helldriver has sustained [...]
