Wha – wha – wha WAGON TIME!

This is the kinda shiz that brings me back to the Oregon trail.  I would stock up on bullets and hunt while my classmates would divy out food and clothing and win the word game I would be hunting and firing bullets at deer and rabbits!  Wait…  where was I going with this?  Oh, yea Wagons…  So I sculpted by hand a wagon to use for a malifaux counter…  It came out kinda crusty in the end so I decided to change course and get on getting with something for realz.  I had a hard time achieving precision on my geometry with greystuff so I headed to the wide world of digital sculpting!  Form here I had a much better way to create my wagon so I could stop feeling defeated.  I ran to the stacks to look at some images.  Initially I sculpted a 4 wheel wagon but after that not working so well I decided to keep it simple for my first go at digital wagon goodness.  I looked up some resources and ended up liking this guy a lot.

So I took this for inspiration and started laying down simple shapes.  Heres where it all started:

From there i kept building shapes and testing things out…  so we ultimately end up with something like this:

From here I made a few minor tweaks and sent it to the machine to print so we end up with something like this:

Not bad right?  So the prototype is still in work in progress mode.  I decided to scale up the design slightly to help the printer get the detail I want.  The rivets/old school nails on the wagon wheels aren’t perfect…  I’ve also been tweaking out print methods on the printer itself because i have been having a few warping problems.  Once that gets cleaned up I will print a final version and then run the object through an acetone vapor bath so smooth the entire work out and get rid of all those tiny lines you can see.  With the structure smoother out and perfected I will take it to the mold making stage and then make myself an abundance of 2x wheeled carts?  After that I will probably set up a small online shop to sell these bad boys and the myriad of other ideas I have being created right now.  Hope you guys like the cart and let me know if you need some!?

Also on the horizon is a this styled cart:

Till next time!

  1. This is so freakin cool. What size base is it on in the picture?

  2. 50mm

  3. Totally sick!! Rolling down the track, ponies on the strap, sippin on gin and juice. Laid back. Got my mind on my cart and my cart under my thigh.
