Devastation

I’m going to be slowing put up pictures of my Khador army once they get completed. I finished this Devastator a while ago and I feel that it is my best work to date. I’m trying to improve on this work by making the shadows and highlights more noticeable, they are very washed out by the light in these pictures. When I was painting the model I thought that they were drastic but afterwards realized that they were. The transitions are very smooth though and I was happy with that.

  1. Yeah, the light’s definitely applying a sheen that makes it hard to see exactly what’s going on. Sucks on top of trying to get better at painting minis that you have to worry about getting better at photography too, but I’m hoping it’ll be worth it in the end.

From what I can see, it almost looks like the parts I expect to be highlighted (raised areas and edges) looks like a deeper or darker green than the other areas. Hard to tell because of the sheen though, would need to see in person.

  2. Ah, got all caught up in photography crap then rushed to hit submit, I meant to say that I think the color scheme on these guys came out great, the khaki looks solid and the muted greens are perfect for that disciplined military look.

  3. y’know thats why i always thought that greener green looked strange around the edges.. its because even though its brighter its not actually lighter… which doesnt quite make sense as a highlight.

  4. I like the green edge even though its not a highlight. Its more like an edge warming. It adds some warmth to the green base color.
